SHP Series

SHP Features immediate spot heat for instant coverage.

  • Stainless steel canopy adds extra strength – especially helpful if brooders are to be relocated.
  • Orifice Holder is easy to clean and wash down.
  • No electricity is required.
  • Stainless steel burner system modulates from low burn to high burn as needed for increased fuel efficiency.
  • Ideal Replacement For High Pressure Brooders
SHP 2 & SHP 3 models are perfect replacements for other high pressure brooders. In most cases individual units can be replaced without added costs.
  • Reduces Fuel Consumption.
Space-Ray high pressure radiant brooders save fuel by delivering radiant warmth directly to the ground level where it’s needed most.Heating the ground level before the air saves fuel. Control Panel Options (see Specifications Tab below)
  • Non electric modulating
  • High/Low with integral digital thermostat
  • High/Low with remote thermostat
  • These models are for use with propane gas only

New installations require 17M Gas Hose Kit, Part No. 30522250.(Hose Kit includes a 6′ X 1/4” gas hose, quick connect fitting and an on/off gas valve.)

Air Filter Option

SHP17B Air Filter
In reasonably clean operating environments, an air filter is unnecessary because of the SHP17B’s unique double gas burner system that combusts dust and carbon to help prevent buildup. Space-Ray offers the air filter option shown here for use in harsh agricultural environments.

Accessories

Space-Ray SHP Series Thermostat & Control Panel Options

Thermostat Options
Space-Ray’s SHP Series is available with two thermostat options. The Individual Thermostat Control provides easy and convenient ambient temperature control. The Remote Individual Thermostat Control (shown at far right) features a remote sensor that can be lowered to floor level for more precise reading of the temperature at liter level.

4′ Remote Sensor can be lowered closer to liter level for more precise reading of floor level temperature

Modulating Controllers
Space-Ray’s SHP Series, when combined with either one of Space-Ray’s economical High/Low control panels, can provide one of the highest fuel efficiencies of any brooder on the market today – dramatically increasing profits by reducing your cost of operation by up to 20%.

Non-Electric Modulating Controller, Part #44160000

The SHP17 modulating control panel requires no electricity for operation. It automatically controls the output level of the brooder based on the thermostat’s requirements.

Hi/Lo Modulating Controller with EW-4-20 Thermostat, Part #44160050

Space-Ray’s unique High/Low control panels provide up to 20% lower fuel consumption by automatically adjusting the brooder’s output from maximum heat output to the minimum heat output in just second

Hi/Lo Modulating Controller with A419 Digital Electronic Thermostat, Part #44160100

Space-Ray’s unique High/Low control panels provide up to 20% lower fuel consumption by automatically adjusting the brooder’s output from maximum heat output to the minimum heat output in just seconds.

Hose Kit – New Installation, Part #30522250

The hose kit is available for new installations using a ½” gas line that includes a ½” manual ball valve, ½” x ¼”bushing, ¼” close pipe nipple, quick disconnect socket, ¼” ID x 6’ hose with quick disconnect fitting, and an adaptor fitting to connect to the hose.

Hose Kit – Existing Installation, Part #30522260

The hose kit is for existing installations which includes the hose and adaptor fitting to connect the brooder. The hose has a quick disconnect fitting to connect to a Sturgis #104051 female quick disconnect fitting.

Air Filter, Part #30744000 (x 2 each)

Under normal operating conditions, an air filter is unnecessary because of the brooder’s unique double gas burner system that combusts dust and carbon to help prevent Buildup. Space-Ray offers the air filter option shown here For use in harsh agricultural environments.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Flowcharts are located toward the end of each products I & O pdf.

How are these controlled?

This can be controlled multiply of ways. For induvial control we offer thermostat control valves. These have integral thermostat and control the pressure between the 5PSIG and the 10”W.C. based off call for heat. These individual come in two ways: one with remote sensor and other without. We offer a variety of control panels as well, that can control a whole zone / or multiply heaters simultaneously. These panels can come in a couple verities. Some are non-electric and we have some electric.

What gas pressure do they run on?

4.5SPIG is the max supply pressure. The heater will produce heat at high pressure (4.5PSIG) and then run in a pilot mode @ 10”w.c. The control valve or panel will control this pressure based off call for heat.

What is the difference between the SHP8 and SHP17?

They are a different emitter and canopy style but have same BTU input. The SHP8 has a rectangle canopy with horizontal cylinder emitter and one filter. The SHP17 has a round canopy with internal dome style emitter and an outer cone emitter and two filters.

Are the filters needed and can they be cleaned?

Yes the filters are needed in harsh, dusty/dirty environments due to the high pressure. They keep the orifice, venturi and internal emitter clean. The filters are made of stainless steel so they are clean able and re-usable.

How do the heaters work on low and high pressure?

When there is no call for heat the control panel or individual thermostat control valve will supply only 10” W.C. to the heater. This will allow a very small burn to continue inside the emitter at a low enough flow that very little heat is produced. When a call for heat occurs the control panel or individual thermostat control valve will then allow the supplied high pressure to heater which will increase the burn/flame. In turn the emitter will glow and produce heat.
